SEDS UCSD leadership

SEDS UCSD — Vice President, Engineering (2024-25)

overview

SEDS UCSD is a group dedicated to developing the next generation of aerospace technology by empowering students to work on industry-level projects at a collegiate level.

As Vice President of Engineering, I supported 100+ members and 5 distinct projects teams in ambitious projects. I also facilitated professional development through technical workshops and project-based research, including our first presentations at AIAA SciTech.

leadership

SEDS UCSD is one of the largest engineering organization at UC San Diego. My tenure oversaw significant technical progress, increased collaboration, growth in team size and project scope, and breakthroughs in project-based research.

In Academic Year 2024-25, we recruited 40 new members, attended AIAA SciTech for the first time, won numerous chapter awards, and expanded our collaborations on and off campus.

professional development

SEDS UCSD prides itself in its educational mission and aims to prepare its members for industry and beyond.

A new initiative for our organization is a professional development program, including a series of technical workshops and lectures, to teach our members about topics not covered by the university curriculum (such as bolted joints, GD&T, machining, etc.).

This has aided the personal growth of our members, aid in knowledge transfer, and support their search for competitive internship and full time positions.

project-based research

As an student organization with no research grants nor funding from the university, conducting research and presenting at conferences is a daunting task. In our industry-level projects, we encounter many challenges and develop novel solutions worthy of sharing.

We leverage our unique position as student-engineers between academia and industry to bring a fresh perspective and show case some of the cool projects we are working on. We shared 5 papers at AIAA SciTech Forum 2025, one of the largest aerospace conferences, marking a significant achievement for our organization and bringing us back into project-based research.

We hope to make it a habit. Read our research below!
